Soon after Hertz Hasenfeld earned his MBA from Fordham Graduate School of Business, he joined his father, Alexander Hasenfeld, in the family diamond business, Hasenfeld-Stein, Inc. In 1977, Hertz became Vice President and Principal of the firm.

Hertz was instrumental in developing several of the company’s diamond manufacturing facilities and innovative diamond-cutting systems for retailer programs.

He is also closely involved in sales training programs for retailers, explaining complex and technical production concepts into terminology that retail salespeople can understand and use to help close sales.

He is an active member of the DMIA and its Gemological Committee and currently serves as a DMIA Vice President. Previously, Hertz also held a seat on the Board of Directors of the Diamond Dealers Club of New York (DDC).

In 2009, Hasenfeld-Stein introduced the patented FireMark™ FirePrincess Cut Diamond, and in 2014, the patented FireCushion. Both cuts are true breakthroughs in diamond cutting.

In 2013 Hertz succeeded his father as president and expanded the sales of FireMark branded diamonds internationally to Indonesia, China, and Thailand. He also expanded the Forevermark arm of the business to include Black Label Rounds and Princess Cuts, further cementing HSI’s place with the American retail jeweler.

Hertz’s key focus in diamond cutting is creating the best in class for each shape and marketing support for each unique shape.

Hasenfeld-Stein Inc. was founded in 1948 by Alexander Hasenfeld. The company is a  De Beers Sightholder and operates cutting factories in Qingdao, China; Vysakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India; Gaborone, Botswana; and New York City.
